A Word Of Welcome

I've a confession to make. I love to run. If you're not a runner, you may find it unusual that a 54-year old pastor enjoys running 6 to 10 miles every other day in the pre-dawn darkness before 6:30 a.m. Yet, those 60-90 minutes offer an invaluable quiet time for prayer, reflection and planning. What follows is, in fact, what might be called a "reflection on the run." I share it with a twofold hope: First, so you may better understand the direction we're headed at West Shore Baptist Church; and second, so you may better know me as the pastor at WSBC. I hope to have the privilege of getting acquainted with you. Maybe we can share an early morning run!

~ A Brief Biography of Jim Newsom ~

Jim Newsom is founder and executive director of Outward Focused. Jim's life has included many incredible challenges. Yet, Jim has found God ever faithful in his life. He will share his experience of God’s faithfulness during his three days with us during our Fall Renewal Weekend at WSBC. During the past thirty years Jim has served as a youth minister and associate pastor in several churches. His nationally-known ministry, Outward Focused, began in September 1983 when a group of businessmen in Orlando, Florida, asked Jim to relocate to their area to start a ministry that would minister to the least, the last and the lost. Since that time, Outward Focused has had a hand in establishing 5 churches, 5 prison ministries, and has helped train 14 men for full-time ministry. This ministry has had an impact in 70 schools, 55 prisons, and over 100 churches. Today Jim resides in Louisville, Kentucky, with his wife, Diane, and their two children, Jessica & Jason.

Summer Season Sunday Sermon Series

All in the Family—Our Vices and Virtues is the theme of our new summer spiritual stimulus package at WSBC. You are invited to share in this summer series each Sunday through the end of August during Sunday worship at 9:00 a.m. and at 10:30 a.m. Our seven-week exploration blends biblical, historical and practical theology in a study of the "Seven Deadly Sins." What are these capital vices which were proscribed by the teachers and theologians of the early Christian church? What are the biblical principles undergirding their proscription? What relevant counsel can we glean for today from these wise teachers of centuries ago? Most importantly, what does the Bible have to say about these vices and virtues? Come and join us during August!

Spring Spiritual Enrichment Seminar Series

The Diaconate and Board of Christian Education is pleased to announce the second annual Spring Spiritual Enrichment Seminar Series on five Sundays, May 31, June 7, 14, 21 and 28 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the sanctuary. The featured presenters will be Michael and Allison Goldman who will speak on the theme "The Oneness of Truth: One Book, One Word, One People." All members, friends and guests are invited. Further program information is available on the announcements page of the WSBC website.

Plus, we'll help kids discover how to see God in everyday life – something we call 'God Sightings.' Get ready to hear that phrase a lot!

Your kids will also participate in a hand on mission project called 'Operation Kid-to-Kid' that involves millions of other children across North America.

Parents, grandparents, and friinvited to join us each day at 8:00 pm, because that's when we'll be having Firefly Finale – a daily celebration of God’s love you wonends are 't want to miss.

Small Group for Married Women

Women take on many roles throughout their week. We are mothers, friends, daughters, employees, managers, cooks, "taxi" drivers, etc.... In the hustle and bustle of life, sometimes we let our role as "wife" go to the wayside. This small group is a chance to take just a few hours out of the week and connect with other women who have the same goal: Becoming the Wives God Calls us to be!!! This small group will begin by focusing on the Gary Thomas book "Sacred Influence - How God Uses Wives to Shape the Souls of their Husbands." We will meet on Wednesdays from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. beginning February 11th, 2009 at the church on the ground floor, education wing. What better way to begin Valentine's Day weekend?

Please contact Toni Montgomery at 717-856-9469 if you are interested in participating in this small group.

About Us

At West Shore Baptist Church we are seeking to build our congregation and our lives on God’s five purposes: worship, fellowship, discipleship, service and evangelism. As such, we seek to honor God through celebrative worship, caring fellowship, lifelong discipleship, loving service and creative mission outreach within our community, region and world.

Our denomination is American Baptist, a wonderfully diverse, evangelical and socially-concerned fellowship numbering 1.5 million Christians and 5,500+ churches. Among our key emphases is the "priesthood of believers," which affirms God’s call in every Christian’s life to use their God-given gifts, abilities, passions, personality and life experiences in service to God, to one another, and to all persons everywhere (1 Peter 2:4-5; Ephesians 2:8-10).

We invite you ... to visit with us:

  • If you would like to worship in a warm, welcoming atmosphere;
  • If you would like a selection of times and locations for Bible study;
  • If you would appreciate being active in Christian community;
  • If you are looking for a way to be of service to others.
